Coating mass is the total amount of coating on surfaces of the base material, measured in grams per square metre of sheet or coupon . In the case of differential coatings, these surfaces are stated separately. The most common test method to determine average coating mass is performed by weighing coated items and then the coating is stripped from the base material without any considerable attack on the base metal. Test items are then washed, dried and reweighed.

LMATS performs these tests regularly in accordance with AS 2331.2.1, AS 4680, AS 1397, AS 1791, ISO 1463, BS EN 12373-2, EXXON Mobil, ESSO Shell specification and similar national and international standards.
